Dual-layer and Multilayer HD VMD Media Format Playable on All HD Capable Displays
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 -- New Medium Enterprises, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: NMEN), is set to offer the fast-growing high-definition (HD) market with a break-through optical storage capacity, playback format, and disc player that will deliver consumers high quality HD content at a comparable cost to the current consumer DVD market.

HD VMD is a red-laser based hardware and software end-product format. Red laser has been proven by the booming DVD market as a cost-effective technology that can now offer the highest HD resolution available, making it a natural successor to DVD and best suited to meet the needs of consumers who desire a value-driven HD solution.
VMD technology provides up to eight information layers on each side of a disc and can be utilized for both blue laser and red laser formats, thereby offering numerous and greater content options and business opportunities for the high-definition and content ecosystem. VMD technology is applicable for single- and double-sided discs and a multiplicity of formats, including Blu-ray and HD-DVD.
HD VMD is a true high definition format with 1920 x 1080i/p resolution, with up to 40 Mbs data transfer rate, Video Up-Conversion for SD DVD, AES encryption and all region codes.
HD VMD media format is suitable for playback on all HD capable display devices and supports existing optical disc formats: CD, DVD (DVD5 & DVD9). The typical devices suitable for HD VMD media format are PCs, DVD type media players, IPTVs and Set-Top-Boxes.
HD VMD video supports MPEG-2 codec, VC-1 codec and H.264 codec, HD VMD audio supports Dolby Digital codec, DTS codec and PCM codec. HD VMD is a true high definition format with 1920 x 1080i/p resolution, up to 40 Mbps data transfer rates, Video Up-Conversion for SD DVD, AES encryption and all region codes. Furthermore HD VMD will also support a number of open source Video codecs in the future.
