NFPA Foundation Gives Grants to Community Colleges

Milwaukee, WI – The NFPA Education and Technology Foundation has awarded grants to four community colleges. The grants will help the schools purchase new hydraulic and pneumatic trainers, or upgrade existing equipment in their fluid power labs. The following schools each received a grant of $25,000:

Angelina College, Lufkin, Texas.

Central Community College, Grand Island, Nebraska

Hennepin Technical College, Eden Prairie, Minnesota

Macomb Community College, Warren, Michigan

In making decisions for grant awards, the schools' ability to acquire in-kind donations to maintain the labs, and the number of students involved, were important factors. Also considered were the labs' multiplier effects to create other relevant projects and curricula.

Past grant recipients of the Foundation's Fluid Power Lab Grant Program include Western Michigan University for a new fluid power laboratory, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) to establish a mechatronics/fluid power lab.
