NEMA and ESFI Note Passing of Industry Pioneer Harold Leviton

ROSSLYN, Va., September 11, 2007- The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) extend condolences to the Leviton family and the employees of the Leviton family of companies upon the death of industry leader Harold Leviton.

"Almost every building in America contains at least one Leviton product," said NEMA President and Chief Executive Officer Evan Gaddis. "Harold built the company his father started into a global enterprise that stood for quality. It has been an honor to work with him, and he will be greatly missed."

Harold Leviton served on ESFI's Board of Directors and, at 30 years of service, was one of the longest-serving governors in NEMA's history. He was a driving force behind establishing NEMA as a leader in standards development.

"Harold's mission went beyond selling products," said ESFI President Brett Brenner. "Quality and safety were paramount to him, and his dedication to those ideals made him an icon in the industry."

Under Harold Leviton's direction, the company has made a strong commitment to research and development, integrating the latest technologies into its products in the interest of performance and safety.

In addition to his seat on NEMA's board, Leviton had served as chairman of the Wiring Devices section and chairman of the Building Equipment Division from 1976 to 1979. He is the only person to have been named as a NEMA director emeritus, which made him an honorary member of the board for life.
