NEMA WELCOMES CONCLUSION OF U.S.-OMAN FREE TRADE NEGOTIATIONS

ROSSLYN, Va., October 3, 2005. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) today hailed the announcement by the governments of Oman and the United States that the two countries have finished negotiating a bilateral free trade agreement. Upon entry into force, the agreement will feature tariff elimination for NEMA member products exported to the Sultanate.

"Our industry welcomes free trade agreements such as this that serve to expand the benefits of trade liberalization to all parties," said NEMA President Evan Gaddis. "Although Oman is not a large market, it as an important gateway to the Gulf region. The implementation of this FTA will mark an important step in the advancement of the administration's Middle East free trade initiative. We strongly urge Congress to ratify it as soon as possible."

NEMA is the leading trade association representing the interests of U.S. electroindustry manufacturers, whose worldwide annual sales of electrical products within the NEMA scope exceed $120 billion. Founded in 1926 and headquartered near Washington, D.C., its 400 member companies manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and end-use of electricity.
