NEMA, AASHTO, and ITE Release NTCIP 8004 v01 Protocol Structure and Identification of Management Information

(ROSSLYN, Va., June 8, 2009) - The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) have published National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) 8004 v01 Structure and Identification of Management Information.

Since 1996, NEMA, AASHTO, and ITE have been jointly developing NTCIP, a family of communication protocols for traffic management devices.

NTCIP 8004 v01 specifies a set of rules and protocols for organizing, describing, and defining transportation management information to be exchanged between transportation management applications and/or transportation equipment to encourage interoperability. Specifically, NTCIP 8004 v01 defines how NTCIP 1200-series data dictionaries organize and identify objects, define object specifications, define meta-attributes, and define MIBs (management information bases). NTCIP 8004 v01 is intended for use in association with certain application layer protocols in transportation-related communications.

The contents and scope of NTCIP 8004 v01 may be viewed, and a hard copy or electronic copy purchased for $80, by visiting NEMA's Web site at www.nema.org/stds/ntcip8004.cfm , or by contacting IHS at 800-854-7179 (within the U.S.), 303-397-7956 (international), 303-397-2740 (fax), or on the Web at global.ihs.com.
