Release of Keystone XL EIS a Positive Step Forward

Pipeline Has Been Delayed Far Too Long; Action Is Needed Now to Create Jobs

Washington, D.C., – National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Assistant Vice President of Energy and Resources Policy Chip Yost released this statement urging approval of the Keystone XL pipeline after the State Department issued the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS):

“The release of the Keystone XL pipeline draft EIS is a step in the right direction toward final approval of this important project. Keystone XL represents a tremendous opportunity to create jobs and provide our country with energy security. The pipeline will create 20,000 manufacturing and construction jobs and an additional 118,000 spin-off jobs.

The NAM has been a leader in calling for approval of Keystone XL, which will help enhance our competitiveness. We have an advantage on energy costs compared to our major trading partners, and Keystone XL offers us a chance to widen that gap. We must embrace a real ‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy, and the Keystone XL pipeline must be part of that strategy.

Americans are frustrated with Washington’s inaction, and Keystone XL is a prime example of inexcusable bureaucracy and red tape. It’s time for the Administration to expeditiously complete its review and approve the pipeline to put Americans back to work.”
