NAM commends General Motors for repaying government loans.

Citing this as positive step on road to economic recovery, Engler said, "The American auto industry represents the country's largest manufacturing base and is critical to manufacturing renewal, which will create quality jobs and grow the economy." NAM represents manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President John Engler issued the following statement regarding General Motors' announcement that it has repaid government loans:

"The NAM commends General Motors for repaying government loans ahead of schedule. While it is still early and we have a long way to go on the road to economic recovery, today's announcement is a positive step. The American auto industry represents the country's largest manufacturing base and is critical to manufacturing renewal, which will create quality jobs and grow the economy."
