Engler Says Overall Quality Of New Cabinet Inspires Confidence
WASHINGTON, D.C., December 19 , 2008 -- John Engler, President and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) issued the following statement in response to President-elect Obama's announcement of his latest nominations to his Cabinet:
Overall, we are pleased with the quality of people nominated to serve in President-elect Obama's cabinet. The defining characteristics of this group are experience, achievement and moderation. The American people will take heart from this leadership team, and gain confidence that we will be able to contend with our difficulties and restore our economic strength.
The choice of Ray LaHood (R-IL) to serve as Secretary of Transportation reinforces the President-elect's commitment to bipartisanship. LaHood has served our country ably for 14 years in the House where he distinguished himself as a reliable champion of economic growth. He understands the importance of manufacturing to our economy, and is uniquely qualified to lead an aggressive campaign to upgrade our transportation infrastructure.
As Secretary of Labor, Rep. Hilda Solis (D-CA) will bear great responsibility helping the Obama Administration strengthen our competitiveness. We look forward to providing detailed analysis of the impact of labor legislation and proposals on American business' ability to create and retain jobs.
