WASHINGTON, D.C., April 21, 2008 - As America celebrates Earth Day and Small Business Week, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) noted that its recent report, Forging New Partnerships: How to Thrive in Today's Global Value Chain, offers best practices and practical insights for small manufacturers to succeed in the global economy in four key areas: harnessing innovation (including sustainable technology); building a skilled workforce; exporting and overseas growth; and financing.

The report, cosponsored by the NAM; its research and education arm, The Manufacturing Institute; and RSM McGladrey, Inc. is available at nam.org/supplychain.

"Small and medium manufacturers account for 40 percent of U.S. production value, and their successes and failures can have a substantial impact on America's economy," said NAM President and CEO John Engler.

The numerous best practices and strategies cited in the report are drawn from interviews and a roundtable discussion with NAM members, results of an annual survey by RSM McGladrey and insights from the U.S. Dept. of Commerce's Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).

The National Association of Manufacturers is the nation's largest industrial trade association, representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NAM has 11 additional offices across the country. Visit the NAM's award-winning web site at www.nam.org for more information about manufacturing and the economy.
