Trane Consultant and Co-presenters to Discuss University of Central Missouri Comprehensive Plan-
SAN FRANCISCO, July 22 - College and university business leaders do not need to choose between greening their campuses and maintaining them. At the upcoming National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) annual conference, Chad Remboldt, educational consultant, Trane, and co-presenters will discuss how the University of Central Missouri developed a budget neutral master plan for implementing green initiatives and mitigating deferred maintenance issues.
Betty J. Roberts, who holds a doctorate in higher and adult education and is vice president for administration and finance at the University of Central Missouri, will lead the presentation with assistance from Remboldt and Santanu K. Nath, P.E., C.E.M., LEED AP, CxA, president of S&S Engineering, Inc.
In 2009, the university launched a 24-month, $36.1 million infrastructure upgrade project that is nearing completion. The improvements were designed to reduce energy consumption while significantly improving the learning environment. Administrators anticipate that selected energy conservation measures will reduce utility costs by nearly one-third while also decreasing greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 30 percent. The university is able to pay for the upgrades, in part, from energy-related savings.
The project includes $21 million in system replacements or upgrades to specifically address deferred maintenance. To mitigate future maintenance issues, the project includes a 15-year service agreement on major systems.
Presenters will address how to develop a financial business model for a comprehensive green initiative. They will also detail how to verify the success of a green and deferred maintenance master program by gathering necessary strategic resources and defining communication tools to create sustainability awareness and participation among students, faculty and staff.
