NACD Supports New Agency Appointees

The National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) congratulates the individuals who have been installed to lead the nation's federal agencies governing issues important to the chemical distribution industry.

NACD will work closely with the following Secretaries on the key issues of chemical security, hazardous materials transportation safety and security, rail competition, and chemicals management policy: Janet Napolitano, former Arizona Governor, as U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security; Lisa Jackson, former Administrator of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. EPA official, as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator; and just-retired Representative Ray LaHood (R-IL), who served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee before his appointment to the Appropriations Committee, as Secretary of Transportation.

NACD President Chris Jahn said, "These new leaders bring a wealth of experience and expertise to DHS, EPA, and DOT. NACD is committed to working in partnership with all of them and the Obama Administration on policies that govern the safe handling, storage, transportation, use, and disposal of chemical products. NACD member companies comprise a pivotal link in the U.S. chemical industry supply chain. They continually demonstrate their commitment to improve their operations in the areas of environmental, health, safety, and security as a result of NACD's third-party verified management program, the Responsible Distribution ProcessSM (RDP). NACD looks forward to educating these new Administration officials on RDP and our members' dedication to safeguarding their facilities, their communities, and the country."

The chemical distribution industry serves virtually every major industry in the United States and plays a critical role in the chain of commerce. NACD's nearly 250 member companies are located in every region of the United States, operate more than 1,550 chemical distribution locations, and employ more than 20,800 individuals.

NACD and its nearly 250 members have established themselves as leaders in health, safety, security, and environmental performance through implementation of the Responsible Distribution Process (RDP), established in 1991 as a condition of membership in NACD. Incorporated as a condition of membership in January 1999, NACD members undergo third-party on-site RDPV - RDP Verification. For additional information, visit NACD's Web site - www.nacd.com.
