NACD Looks Forward to Working with the New Congress

As the 111th Congress is sworn in, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) looks forward to working with the members of the Senate and House on issues important to the chemical distribution industry and the entire economy.

NACD President Chris Jahn said, "During these challenging economic times, NACD is committed to working with the new Congress and the new Administration on policies that will lead our nation into a new era of sustained growth. The chemical distribution industry serves virtually every major industry in the United States and plays a critical role in the chain of commerce. NACD members," Jahn continued, "play a leadership role in their communities as technical and safety resources and are eager to provide the same assistance and guidance to legislators and regulators on practical issues relating to the safe handling, storage, transportation, use, and disposal of chemical products."

NACD's key issues for 2009 include chemical security, hazardous materials transportation safety and security, rail competition, chemicals management policy, tax, and labor matters. In the coming days and weeks, NACD will reach out to the new Congress to begin discussing these issues and to educate Senators and Representatives on the key role that chemical distribution plays in the chain of commerce.

NACD also looks forward to educating the new Congress and Administration on the Association's Responsible Distribution ProcessSM (RDP), which requires members to continuously improve performance in the environment, health, safety, and security aspects of their businesses. NACD's nearly 250 member companies are located in every region of the United States, operate more than 1,550 chemical distribution locations, and employ more than 20,800 individuals.
