NACD Announces New RDP Mentoring Program

The National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) has announced a new and valuable resource, the Responsible Distribution ProcessSM (RDP) Mentoring Program. The primary objective of the program is to provide insight and expertise to NACD members from a professional well-versed in RDP.

NACD has hired Doug Kutz, from NACD's Affiliate company Chemical Distribution Excellence, to lead the RDP Mentoring Program. Kutz is a consultant to the chemical industry on regulatory compliance, costs control measures, and logistics and has been in the chemical distribution industry working for two full-line Midwest chemical distributors for the last 30 years. He served in sales, logistics, purchasing, transportation, distribution, and technology positions, completing this part of his career as Director of Operations. Then he moved to Indianapolis and started his consulting firm.

Kutz received the NACD Distributor of the Year Award in 1998. He was chairman of NACD's Operations Seminar and Trade Show (OPSEM) Committee for five years, and NACD's Central Region President for two years. He was a member of the NACD RDP Committee for more than 15 years and served as its committee chairman in 2006 and 2007. Also, he recently served as chairman for the NACD Affiliate Advisory Panel.

Kutz's services will include phone and electronic communications and could include an on-site member facility visit, with NACD covering the RDP Mentoring Program's labor costs, up to 8 hours on site.

"The RDP Mentoring Program's goal is to further the mission of RDP; that is, to continuously improve our members' environmental, health, safety, and security (EHS&S) requirements of RDP, the Association's third-party verification program," said NACD's President Chris Jahn. "NACD is offering this program because we believe the entire chemical industry benefits from organizations that strive for a high level of RDP Excellence and EHS&S performance, as well as being committed to continuous improvement."

Successfully demonstrating, through on-site verifications, implementation of EHS&S policies and procedures under RDP's Code of Management Practice to an independent third-party verifier has been a condition of membership in NACD since 1997. RDP Verification (RDPV) is required once every 36 months. The current cycle ends June 2010.

For more information on the RDP Mentoring Program, contact Mike Lang, RDP Director, at 703/527-6223 or mlang@nacd.com. For information on NACD's on-site RDP Verification process, visit the Responsible Distribution ProcessSM Web site at www.responsibledistribution.com.

NACD and its nearly 250 members have established themselves as leaders in health, safety, security, and environmental performance through implementation of the Responsible Distribution Process (RDP), established in 1991 as a condition of membership in NACD. Incorporated as a condition of membership in January 1999, NACD members undergo third-party on-site RDPV - RDP Verification. For additional information, visit NACD's Web site - www.nacd.com.
