Water Missions International Brings Safe Drinking Water to Stricken Areas with the Help of Multi-Contact and Other Corporate Donors

WINDSOR, CA - Multi-Contact USA, a leading manufacturer of precision electrical and electronic connectors, has lent ongoing support to the non-profit Water Missions International (WMI), recently contributing to WMI's effort to bring safe drinking water to drought-prone Kenya.

South Carolina based WMI developed the Living Water Treatment System (LWTS), a compact, self-contained water treatment system. The LWTS treats 10 gallons (38 liters) of water per minute, drawn from a raw water source such as a lake or river. The operating cost is less than $3.00 per 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters) of water when run on a dieselpowered generator. Using solar power, the operating cost drops to less than 75¢ per 1,000 gallons.

Earlier this month, Multi-Contact initiated an effort to transport and install 6,000 feet of copper wire to WMI field personnel in Kenya, where it will be used to connect LWTS units to solar power generators. The wire was donated by Rome, NY-based Kris-Tech Wire through its warehouse facility in Southern California. FedEx Corporation also stepped in, donating to transport the wire, rounding out a concerted effort to support WMI's Kenyan relief effort.

WMI has been active in Kenya for years, expanding its presence in 2010 to cover all regions of the country, including remote areas suffering from widespread poverty and few functioning water sources. Somali refugee camps have been a particular focus. Hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees, displaced by war and famine, have sought asylum in Kenya since civil war erupted in the early 1990s. To date the country is host to the largest refugee camp in the world.

Multi-Contact previously donated materials, including MC4 connectors, wire and tools, for connecting and powering WMI water treatment units in Haiti, where WMI has maintained a continued presence since a devastating earthquake struck the island nation in 2010.
