Motorola India Announces Trio of Firsts

NEW DELHI, India, Nov. 16 / -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT), today announced a series of important firsts to help drive the company's growth in India. Specifically, Motorola announced the C115, one of the company's hottest-selling handsets, will now have a "Made in India" label -- a first for the company. Motorola also announced that it has selected India as the first market to launch its new ultra-sleek and ultra-chic Motorola L6 mobile handset. And, in a move to drive rapid expansion and brand presence by connecting the nation's unconnected, Motorola is to establish a strategic relationship with Bharti Teletech Ltd. for Motorola's full range of mobile handsets and accessories.

"India is all about opportunity -- and today's announcements make it clear that Motorola is here to be a major player," said Allen Burnes, corporate vice president for the High Growth Markets operation within Motorola's Mobile Devices business. "We're doing our part to leverage and create opportunities -- both for India and for Motorola. Without question, wireless communications fuels commercial activity across economic strata. And across technologies and price tiers, Motorola is expanding its presence in India. From our higher-end 'must haves' such as the new Motorola L6 candy bar and our best-selling RAZR clamshell, to our hugely popular C115, Motorola is helping connect the unconnected. This creates new and exciting opportunities -- and the potential for many new firsts -- for India's consumers."

Motorola C115 will get "Made-In-India" label
Motorola's hot-selling and hugely popular C115 mobile handset will get a new label -- one which reads "Made-In-India" -- the first ever for a Motorola mobile handset. The company expects the first Motorola C115 handsets assembled in India will be available by mid-December this year. The compact and stylish C115 is designed for mass-market users and features outstanding battery life and compelling personalization tools. Assembly in India is the first step in a multi-phase manufacturing strategy being deployed by Motorola in India.

Ultra-sleek, ultra-chic Motorola L6 premieres in India
In a world premiere from India (another first for the company) Motorola has launched the newest MOTO "must have" -- the highly anticipated, ultra-slim and ultra-chic Motorola L6 mobile handset. Expected to be a game-changer worldwide for the popular candy-bar form factor, the Motorola L6 delivers a first for Motorola, for India and for the industry. Following its launch in India, the Motorola L6 will roll out in other markets in due course through a series of announcements. Meanwhile, across India, the Motorola L6 is on sale starting today.

The ultra-slim Motorola L6 leverages the award-winning attributes of the Motorola RAZR -- the world's best-selling clamshell design. Measuring just 10.9mm and weighing just 86 grams, the chiseled and sleek Motorola L6 handset looks fantastic and packs a significant feature set, including an integrated VGA camera for video recording, Bluetooth(R) connectivity and a digital audio player.

Strategic Relationship with Bharti Teletech another first in Motorola's push to expand
In yet another first, Motorola has also announced that it is to establish a strategic relationship with handset distributor Bharti Teletech Ltd. which is expected to extend Motorola's brand and product presence across India. Bharti's more than 11,000 distribution channels will help Motorola reach a wide customer base -- extending beyond urban centers and into rural communities. The strategic relationship enhances Motorola's drive and commitment to connect the unconnected in the world's rapidly growing markets.

Motorola is aligned to drive growth in India
The announcement of India's assembly of the Motorola C115, India's global premiere of the Motorola L6 mobile handset, and the strategic relationship with Bharti Teletech come as Motorola reinvigorates its presence in India with other important initiatives:

o Motorola has enhanced its employment of 3,000 software engineers in Bangalore and Hyderabad, by relocating the senior leadership team and headquarters offices for its High Growth Markets operation to Delhi.

o Motorola has increased its investments for its Bangalore-based global software and hardware design and development hub.

o And, through the end of 2005, Motorola will add additional stylishly slim "must have" mobile devices designed to appeal to consumers across price tiers.
