Monterey, Third largest City of Mexico, Goes Contactless with ASK

Nuevo León capital city offers easy, convenient and secure transport ticketing
Sophia-Antipolis : Monterey Enlaces Inteligentes, the transport authority for Nuevo León state has entrusted ASK as a provider for the Feria contactless smart cards of the Monterey region.
In a global world where technology is the spearhead for large innovative projects, the 74 transport operators of Nuevo León decided to offer a prepaid card to improve the way of life and comfort of users. After investigating several technologies, contactless was selected as the most suitable technology to improve services. Worldwide large implementations, including the city of Mexico with ASK Metrobús contactless cards, were instrumental in the process of decision. Today, more than 2.6 million transactions are processed per day.
Two types of contactless smart cards are available, one for students, elderly and disabled people and the other one for all other categories. They are based on NXP Mifare DESFire chips.
"The contactless ticketing system success is mainly due to three factors, says Alejandro Torres, General Manager at Enlaces Inteligentes. First, an extensive network of reloading points is available at the 672 OXXO retails stores and at the 13 Feria issuing centers, on the other hand the system is implemented in the whole city and all transport modes and, at least but not last, users benefit from high durability contactless smart cards."
In the future, the cards should include multiapplication and loyalty programs for an easy, safe and convenient ride around Monterey, the industrial capital of Mexico.
