Mocon Adds Expert to Greenlight® Food Safety Business,Expands European Marketing Efforts

Minneapolis, Minn. – MOCON, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOCO) is increasing European marketing efforts for its GreenLight® food safety line with the addition of an industry leader to its team.

Henk van der Meer has joined MOCON as a microbial detection consultant.  Van der Meer has held several senior food safety diagnostic positions throughout his career, including 23 years as managing director of BioControl B.V., Netherlands.

Capitalizing on the success of its GreenLight® market initiative in North America, MOCON is now expanding its European focus.  Van der Meer will be using his extensive experience to assist the company in creating a premier distribution network.  Initial targeted countries include the United Kingdom, Germany and France.

The GreenLight® series was developed to provide precise, same-day results in a cost-effective manner.  Depending on the bacterial load, results can often be obtained in minutes.  This is significantly faster than the traditional agar or film plate methods, which typically require 48 hours, or longer, to achieve a meaningful microbial count.  Shorter testing cycles provide packers and processors (meat, poultry, seafood, dairy, produce, etc.) with the potential of getting their perishable food items to the consumer in less time.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with a well-respected European food safety leader,” said Alan Traylor, business manager - microbial detection, MOCON.  “Henk’s extensive relationships in this sector will be a great asset in helping MOCON expand its European footprint for the GreenLight® product line.”

Van der Meer also is a member of PUM Netherlands senior experts. The organization was established to enable entrepreneurs to share knowledge and expertise in developing countries on a voluntary basis.   Additionally, he holds degrees in chemical technology and industry marketing.
