Press release date: October 5, 2005

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL. (October 5, 2005) - Today Mikron marked a significant milestone in the High-Speed Machining (HSM) market by announcing that their Nidau, Switzerland Production Plant delivered the company's 1,000th high-speed machining center equipped with a spindle from the 42,000 rpm power class. Mikron delivered an HSM 400U to E.S. Tooling in Belgium, a manufacturer of molds, tools and parts for the automotive, medical and optics industries.

"The delivery of this 1,000th system sets a new global distribution record for HSM machining centers in this 42,000 rpm class," said Mikron U.S. Vice President, Mal Sudhakar. "We are grateful to our customers for their continued trust in our extremely reliable high-speed machining technology."

For nearly ten years, Mikron's HSM systems equipped with the HSK 40E Steptec spindle, have won popularity due to their reliable and cost-efficient operations. Advantages of these systems include exceptional performance due to the high power density (high torques and speeds using little space), and good surface quality / precision due to quiet operations and accurate concentricity.

In the U.S. and Canada, Mikron offers an extensive line of High-Performance Machining Centers including the popular HSM 400U. The HSM 400U achieves high-speed simultaneous five-axis machining of up to 250 rpm on the rotation axis and up to 150 rpm on the swivel axis. Mikron's high-speed machines have been enhanced further with "smart machining" technology, an intelligent new approach to high-speed machining that is designed to improve process reliability, optimize machining performance and allow reliable, unmanned operation.

About Mikron Mikron is a subsidiary of the Agie Charmilles Group, the world's leading system provider to the tool and moldmaking industry. The company provides sales, service, parts and technical support of Mikron high speed, high performance machining centers. Mikron has the industry's widest range of high speed machines, with travel ranges from 15 through 54 inches and spindle speeds up to 60,000 rpm. Machines are available in a wide array of three-, four- and five-axis configurations for die/mold, job shop, aerospace, medical, electronic and other high precision applications. The company maintains fully equipped, state-of-the-art technology centers in Holliston, MA., and Lincolnshire, IL., for applications engineering, customer training and product demonstrations.
