MiX Telematics Strengthens Commitment to New Zealand Bus and Coach, Transport Industries

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – MiX Telematics a leading global provider of fleet and mobile asset management solutions, will increase its focus on the evolving New Zealand transport industry. The company, which will be participating in the Bus and Coach Association (BCA) New Zealand Annual Conference in Auckland for the first time this week, says it will continue to work on introducing innovative telematics solutions that cater to this specific market.

MiX Telematics solutions have helped bus and transport companies across the world, and the company has been operating in New Zealand since 2004 through a partnership with Wellington- and Auckland-based Vehicle Technologies . The successful relationship has already established a strong network of clients in the market including NZ Bus Fonterra New Zealand Defence Force, Dyne's Transport Group, Rentokil-Initial and also introduced overseas projects in Russia, the United States and Romania.

Alan Hall, Managing Director, MiX Telematics (Middle East and Australasia), said both partners will continue to support the growth of the industry by offering innovative, cost-effective telematics solutions that will allow operators to be more successful commercially and operationally. "With our proven solution portfolio and our established partner, Vehicle Technologies, we are in a strong position to extend our market reach in New Zealand," he said.

MiX Telematics' state-of-the-art telematics solutions will be on display at this year's BCA New Zealand Annual Conference, and has the potential to save the industry millions of dollars in operating costs each year.

MiX Telematics' proven In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) delivers up to 10 per cent savings on annual fuel costs, reduces vehicle wear-and-tear, enhances operational efficiencies and reliability while improving driver behaviour, increasing passenger comfort and lowering CO2 emissions. The solution consists of a device that is fitted to the vehicle's electronics system and supported with the industry-leading RIBAS in-cab display that provides 'real-time' feedback on driver performance across five categories: Over-Revving, Excessive Idling, Harsh Braking, Harsh Acceleration and Over-Speeding (RIBAS). The solution provides fleet operators, managers and owners with an opportunity to identify where driver training is required to improve operational efficiencies.

NZ Bus has been a customer since 2012 and almost 800 of their 1100 buses are equipped with the MiX Telematics solution. Zane Fulljames, CEO, NZ Bus, says that "MiX Telematics has a demonstrated track record of providing effective fleet optimisation solutions and a clear appreciation for the values that drive NZ Bus."

Barry Shardlow, Managing Director of Vehicle Technologies, said MiX Telematics' range of solutions is helping customers across a variety of areas. "Companies can monitor efficiency measures in real-time to constantly improve fleet performance and make decisions on whether further driver training is required to correct any issues identified. Our reporting services can also provide analysis of the data and show the direct impact on their business.

"At the same time, the drivers themselves can monitor their own behaviour with the RIBAS Display that is mounted to their dashboard and informs them through visual and audible warnings if they are close to exceeding the limits in terms of over-revving, excessive idling, harsh braking, harsh acceleration and over-speeding. The devices are set according to agreed company parameters and serve as in-cab driver trainers, allowing drivers to adjust their actions, if possible, to avoid a 'red light' event on their report. It is not intended as a punitive tool; its function rather is to help improve driver awareness and modify behaviour," he said.

The MiX Telematics solution has been installed in thousands of buses across Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. MiX Telematics and Vehicle Technologies can be visited at the BCA New Zealand Annual Conference at the Viaduct Event Centre in Auckland from 9 - 11 July at booths 22 29.
