Six Drivers Offer Their Thoughts on the Welding and Gases Industry

"Men of the Road" bring more to the job than steady hands at the wheel.

Dewitt, NY: The drivers who transport goods in the gases and welding industry do more than just drop off cylinders or filling tanks at customers' locations. Often these drivers are the company's front line when it comes to customer service.

In the Spring issue of Welding & Gases Today, the leading provider of information to the welding and gases supply business, six "Men of the Road" share their thoughts with Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA) members and other readers of the magazine. The interviews conducted for the magazine feature will be offered in an expanded form on the magazine's online component, weldingandgasestoday.org.

Each driver hails from locations as diverse as Great Falls, ND; Wooster, OH; Cincinnati, OH; Richmond, VA; Everett, MA; and Reno, NV, and offers just as diverse an array of experiences, although all of them agree that being on the road is the highlight of their jobs.

Joey Ray of Arcet Equipment Company in Richmond says he loves the variety each day brings and always rises to meet the challenge of presenting quality customer service. "If I encounter a disgruntled customer, which doesn't happen often, I try to make it right," says Ray. "If they lose their head, I always keep mine. If they start yelling, I just explain to them what happened and keep a cool head and try to work out the problem."

Rob Esson of Sierra Welding Supply in Reno said that his company's customers have come to depend on his reliability. "My regular customers can tell what time of day it is when they see my truck pull in," says Esson. "I'm known for my consistency."
