As part of an on-going environmental commitment, many of the new Melles Griot optical elements being introduced into the marketplace are designed and manufactured with lead-free and arsenicfree glass. An earth-friendly approach to optics development, these "green" products protect the workers who manufacture them, safeguard the environment they are made in, and help support the well being of the end-user customer. Direct replacements for the traditional line of standard achromat lenses, the new "green" products were introduced to the global marketplace in the new Melles Griot Catalog X. Launched at an international trade show in Munich, Germany, Catalog X features eighty-seven "green" achromat lenses made without the health and environmental risks associated with exposure to heavy metals.
Part of a larger, global trend, glass manufacturers have also taken significant strides in designing and manufacturing lead-free products. Schott, for example, is replacing most of its glass products with lead-free and arsenic-free equivalents as denoted by the letter "N" in front of the current name (e.g., N-BK7, arsenic-free BK7). In a nod to this collective movement towards earth-friendly practices, and as part of their long-term commitment to the environment, over time, Melles Griot will be offering additional "green" products that will help the world see into a clearer, greener future.
