State Prison Systems Turn to Medbox for Solutions

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Medbox, Inc. (Pinksheets: MDBX) (www.medboxinc.com) reported today that they have been contacted by several state prison authorities to provide solutions to the challenge of storing and dispensing prescription medicines inside the prison environment.

The problem of lost, stolen or abused prescription medicines inside prisons is endemic. According to CNBC, with more than 2.3 million people locked up, the U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world. One out of 100 American adults is behind bars.

Prison officials are obligated to provide medical care for this large population of prisoners, which often requires dispensing of prescribed medicines. Unfortunately, most prisons suffer from antiquated systems that allow medicines to go unaccounted or fall into the wrong hands - furthering a culture of addiction, crime and corruption.

According to a Special Report on California Prison Pharmacies from the Inspector General of the State of California, there is "an unreliable pharmacy inventory system." This outdated system not only presents potential for abuse, but also costs taxpayers millions of dollars a year. Furthermore, the prison pharmacy staff told inspectors that the "inventory system was not accurate and could not be trusted."

Medbox develops and manufactures safe and secure prescription dispensing systems that provide the highest levels of security, including biometric fingerprint recognition, and permanent and unalterable photographic records of each time an item is dispensed.

"Our fully automated solution modernizes the antiquated system in most prisons around the world, as well as provides the best possible solutions for safety and security," according to Dr. Bruce Bedrick, CEO of Medbox, Inc. "The Medbox system provides a tremendous cost savings and speedy ROI to an already cash strapped prison system."
