Wednesday, April 2nd 2008-RSVP Tooling, Inc. premium grade material surpasses its competition! After extensive research, RSVP has proven its quality to be far superior to its competition. Our standard chaser and roll material is M-2 high speed steel. M-2 is superior in wear resistance to D-2 (carbon chrome) which is mainly used by American manufacturers.
When a higher wear resistance is required, particularly when cutting or rolling stainless steel; nitriding the surface proves beneficial in prolonging tool life. This highly wear resistant micro penetration of the surface of the tool delays the breakdown of the form while maintaining the ductile nature of the material. Nitriding is therefore preferred vs. simply increasing the material hardness overall which would increase wear resistance but reduce ductility, resulting in premature chipping and reduced roll life.
On high load applications, standard high speed steel or carbon chrome will not stand up as well as sintere d grades of tool steel. ASP-23 enables us to make chasers and rolls with a slightly higher hardness than M-2 and at the same time increasing toughness. This combination for increased hardness and ductility is why we currently use ASP-23 as standard on our radial rolls. ASP-23 is approximately three times the cost of standard high speed steel but is offset by the ease of thread grinding. As a result, we are able to remain competitive in standard pricing.
The benefits to our customers have put us ahead of our competition in several key accounts through one on one performance testing on various occasions. For this simple fact, Eric Palmer of RSVP Tooling, Inc. believes and promotes that, "our material is superior to our competition."
