Manufacturers Take Message of Economic Growth and Job Creation to Capitol Hill

House Whips McCarthy and Hoyer Address Manufacturers' Summit

Washington, D.C., - With manufacturing at the forefront of every national economic discussion, nearly 400 members of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) are in Washington, D.C., this week to push members of Congress to implement pro-growth, pro-jobs policies that will help manufacturers continue to lead our economic recovery. As a part of the NAM's Manufacturing Summit, manufacturers joined House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) today for a lively discussion on job creation and ways to increase competitiveness for U.S. manufacturers in the global marketplace.

"Manufacturers go to work each day battling a 20 percent cost disadvantage with our international competitors, and it is essential that policymakers implement policies to close that gap. Hundreds of manufacturers have come to our nation's capital this week to advocate for solutions that will create jobs and foster an environment for economic growth. We appreciate Republican Whip McCarthy's and Democratic Whip Hoyer's commitment to the manufacturing renaissance that is within our grasp, and it was beneficial for manufacturers to hear their thoughts on issues that are so important to us," said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons.

The NAM organized the Summit to make the voices of 12 million men and women who make things in America heard. In addition to this morning's meeting with congressional leadership, manufacturers have converged on Washington for the Summit to conduct 200 meetings with policymakers across two days.

They will discuss tax policy to lower rates for all manufacturers and make us more competitive in the global marketplace. And as the nation's largest consumers of energy, manufacturers will highlight the need for an "all-of-the-above" energy policy that will provide affordable and reliable resources. In addition, NAM members are committed to closing the skills gap, where 600,000 jobs remain unfilled despite high unemployment, through improved education and nationally portable workforce certifications.

The National Association of Manufacturers is the largest manufacturing association in the United States, representing manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Manufacturing has a presence in every single congressional district providing good, high-paying jobs.
