Manufacturers: Cybersecurity Held at the Highest-Priority Level

CISPA Provides Stronger Defense Against Growing Cyber Threats

Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Manufacturers today announced that it would key vote in support of H.R. 624, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA). Manufacturers have made cybersecurity a primary focus and have worked with members on both sides of the aisle in the House and Senate to develop legislation that will protect the United States from increasing cyber threats.

“Manufacturers hold the responsibility of cybersecurity at the highest-priority level,” said NAM Senior Vice President of Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse. “Manufacturers know the economic security of the United States is directly related to our cybersecurity. CISPA is a key element for ensuring that the comprehensive and connected relationships manufacturers maintain with customers, vendors, suppliers and governments are well protected. Preparation is a critical line of defense from cyber threats, and we believe CISPA will help protect manufacturing jobs and intellectual property.”

Manufacturers have supported solutions that offer the necessary protections and information sharing without adding duplicative regulations that don’t improve security.

“The manufacturing community is dedicated to ensuring that the United States has the best protections possible from cyber attacks,” commented NAM Technology Subcommittee Chair Eric Fitzgerald Reed. “We are eager to partner with the government and private entities to ensure that information that would improve cybersecurity is shared seamlessly, while also providing appropriate liability protections. Cybersecurity will play a significant role in defining the future of the Internet and business in the 21st century, so it is natural that the manufacturing and high-tech communities strongly support the CISPA legislation.”
