Manufacturers Congratulate Rep. Fred Upton on His Appointment as Chairman of Energy and Commerce Committee

Congressman Is Strong Advocate for Manufacturers and Recipient of the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO John Engler issued the following statement today on Representative Fred Upton's (R-MI) appointment as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee:

"Manufacturers congratulate Rep. Upton on becoming chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Rep. Upton has been a key ally for manufacturers during his tenure in the House of Representatives.

We believe he will be an outstanding chairman. He is a proven leader and has stood up for manufacturers and business, voting against a health care bill that only raises costs for manufacturers. He has also been steadfast in his support on energy issues that affect manufacturers' ability to compete in the global market.

There are over 112,000 manufacturing employees in Rep. Upton's district - including small and large companies - and the Congressman has been instrumental in setting policies that help them compete in the global marketplace.

As a result of his work, Rep. Upton has been a recipient of the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence in every Congress since the NAM established the award in 1997. Manufacturers in his district and across the nation look forward to working with him on important issues facing our sector, the economy and our global competitiveness."
