Manufacturers: Bipartisan Immigration Proposal a Strong Step Forward

Comprehensive Immigration Reform Essential to Manufacturing Economy and Workforce

Washington, D.C. - National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons issued a statement in response to the proposed framework for comprehensive immigration reform released by a bipartisan group of senators. The NAM is a leading member of inSPIRE STEM USA, a coalition of businesses and educational groups advocating for immigration reform.

“Comprehensive immigration reform is good for manufacturers, good for the economy and good for the fabric of America. We are bogged down by a broken system that prevents manufacturers from hiring the best people and keeps millions of people living on the edges of society. Today’s proposal is a strong step forward toward comprehensive reform. It’s clear that patchwork solutions won’t get the job done. A strong bipartisan commitment will be necessary to see reform all the way through, and the framework released by senators from both sides of the aisle is an encouraging sign. As the discussion on comprehensive immigration reform moves forward, manufacturers believe all ideas should be on the table, and manufacturers look forward to offering their input and recommendations as specific language is developed in the weeks ahead.”
