Malvern Exhibits Powerful Combination of Complementary Particle Characterization Tools at PTXi 2010

20 April 2010: Malvern, UK: Visitors to the Malvern Instruments booth #2731 at PTXi 2010 (4-6 May; Rosemont IL, USA) will have the opportunity to find out more about the powerful and complementary techniques of laser diffraction and image analysis for detailed particle characterization.

Laser diffraction, as implemented in Malvern's market leading Mastersizer and Insitec systems, is well established and widely used for particle size analysis across many different sectors. Easy to use, for both wet and dry samples across a wide measurement range, the Mastersizer 2000 is an established reference laboratory solution for particle sizing. Industrially rugged Insitec systems enable real-time analysis and control, delivering the ability to detect and respond immediately to process and product issues. Complementing laser diffraction measurement is the Morphologi G3, a fully automated microscopy-based image analysis system which provides precise information about particle shape as well as size, allowing better control of key product attributes.

Mastersizer 2000

The Mastersizer 2000 has become the system of choice in many areas offering a versatile, robust reference solution for laser diffraction particle size measurement. Fully automated with a broad measurement range (0.02 to 2000 microns), easily interchanged dispersion units for wet/dry analysis, and unique user-configurable software interface, it is simple to operate and highly productive.

Insitec systems

Industrially rugged Insitec systems deliver solutions for real-time particle size measurement within the process environment. Suitable for wide ranging applications, they are now the standard in most particulate processing industries. High measurement rates allow precise monitoring of even rapidly changing and high concentration processes with particles in the range 0.1 to 1000 microns. Rugged construction and robust technology reflect the exacting demands placed on analytical instrumentation in continuous use, with ATEX and FM approved, and intrinsically safe options available. The software interface adheres to the OPC standard for analytical devices, simplifying integration.

Morphologi G3

The fully automated Morphologi G3 offers image analysis-based particle characterization, delivering particle size and shape information for both wet and dry samples. For dry powders, a novel fully integrated dispersion system reduces sample preparation times and significantly improves the repeatability of measurements. Capable of analyzing particles from 0.5 to 10000 µm, and capturing microscope quality images of hundreds of thousands of particles in just a few minutes, the Morphologi G3 measures a wide range of size and shape parameters. Various software tools, including an interactive scattergram, make it easy to visualise, classify and filter these results, for statistical interrogation of the data.
