Press release date: March 1, 2009

New titanium sinker EDM technology improves titanium production speed and accuracy.

AUBURN HILLS, MI-March 2009-Makino's new sinker EDM Titanium Booster technology enhances productivity and capability in roughing processes of titanium and titanium alloys. This technology addresses previous issues associated with rough machining, or "hogging," large pockets or cavities in titanium, including high wear rates of expensive specialty cutting tools, previous slow EDM machining speeds, and high electrode wear.

Titanium Booster technology utilizes a 60 Amp power booster and new machining conditions to increase roughing speeds up to 80% while reducing electrode wear to nearly a third that of previous and existing EDM technologies. Graphite based electrode material is used for processing, eliminating the need for high cost copper and copper tungsten materials. With increased EDM speeds, manufacturers can extend sinker EDM usage during titanium production for reduced tooling costs and greater part accuracies.

Makino's Titanium Booster technology is available for all EDNC series machines and can be ordered with the machine upon purchase.

Makino is a global provider of advanced machining technology and application support, where new thinking takes shape for the metalcutting and die/mold industries. Makino manufacturing and service centers are located in the United States, Japan, Germany, Singapore, Italy, France, Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, China, Mexico, Brazil and India, and are supported by a worldwide distributor network.
