Press release date: April 15, 2008

Engineers building applications for processors can take advantage of the real-time advantages offered by the ARM DCC

SAN JOSE, CA, Embedded Systems Conference - April 15, 2008 - VMacraigor Systems today announced it has added to its proprietary On-Chip Debug Technology (OCDemon) the ability to access the Debug Communications Channel, or debug communications channel (DCC), which resides in the ARM Embedded ICE. The DCC is accessed by the host via JTAG while the target processor, running in real time, accesses the channel via coprocessor instructions. This allows for additional methods of debug and real-time sharing of information. Macraigor Systems has augmented its tool suite to take advantage of this capability. OCD Commander users can now pop up a virtual terminal that lets them type in commands and receive responses to/from software they load and run on the target CPU.

OCDRemote now can optionally create DCC TCP/IP ports that transfer data packets to/from the target via Ethernet. A new freeware utility, DCCTerminal provides a virtual terminal that lets users connect remotely to OCDRemote's DCC port(s) and then request and receive data packets from the DCC-aware application running on the target.

Macraigor's example GNU/Eclipse project directory now includes DCC-aware demo projects for the Freescale iMX21 ADS (ARM 926), the Freescale iMX27 ADS (ARM 926 on multiple-device JTAG scan chain) and the STMicro STR710 (arm7tdmi) evaluation boards. Each example contains the source, makefile, ldscript, gdbinit and README files including: o Build using the gnu tool kit and/or Eclipse CDT 4.x configuration available on the Macraigor Web site) o Run using either the OCD Commander or OCDRemote + gdb/Eclipse, and test using OCD Commander's pop-up virtual terminal or OCDRemote + gdb/Eclipse + DCCTerminal.

As board real estate becomes smaller, developers, test engineers and field-support personal can use Macraigors DCC tools and software as a replacement for serial ports or Ethernet connections.

"Macraigor Systems is committed to providing hardware/software JTAG debug interface solutions for all current and future ARM technology-based processors and using their resources to the utmost," said managing partner James MacGregor.
