RICHMOND, VA (May 6, 2009) - MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) announced today an enhanced version of its KlaFold paperboard product. The new version features a lightweight coated unbleached kraft sheet, designed for demanding packaging applications. The new KlaFold has a 3 to 5 percent lower basis weight and offers the same strength advantages as the original KlaFold. These lower weights translate into saving opportunities for packaging printers and provide a sustainable alternative for brand owners worldwide.
The new KlaFold offering was designed in response to customers' interest in lower basis weight products for a variety of demanding packaging applications. KlaFold users have noted an improvement in KlaFold's print surface and styling, which has helped achieve parity with high-quality coated paperboard alternatives available in the market today. KlaFold is ideal for packaging dry goods, consumer products and electronics because of its specially designed properties that deliver high shelf impact and visibility. With KlaFold, MWV has been able to significantly expand its business in the frozen food and microflute packaging markets.

MWV and Klabin have a multiyear strategic sales agreement giving MWV rights to sell a share of KlaFold produced at Klabin's Monte Alegre paper mill in Telemarco Borba, Parana, Brazil. The agreement enables MWV, a leader in packaging with significant marketing and supply chain capabilities, to reach global brand owners on behalf of Klabin. With the addition of the new KlaFold, MWV continues to expand its paperboard portfolio to offer customers a wider range of cost-effective, quality paperboard solutions.
