Press release date: July 31, 2006

MTI Instruments, Inc. (MTII) of Albany, NY, a worldwide leader in precision measurement solutions, announced the launch of their new APEX series of Eddy Current Transducers. The new product line provides advanced measurement solutions for demanding process control and condition-based monitoring applications. With measurement accuracy ranging from .25 mm to 50 mm, and resolutions to .5 microns, MTI Instruments' APEX line of transducers is ideal for displacement, position, vibration and machinery monitoring applications. In addition, the accuracy and performance of the Eddy Current sensors are not compromised by elements such as water, oil, and other contaminants in the measurement area.

The APEX series includes several product choices and represents a new benchmark for cost-effective Eddy Current measurement systems. MTI Instruments is introducing its APEX transducers at very competitive prices and anticipates that it will earn increasing global market share.

"We are building on our extensive experience working with the most demanding rotating applications in the world by creating a new series of hardware/software systems using APEX probes to provide unparalleled diagnostics and prognostics to our industrial customers," said Dave Kennison, Business Unit Manager for the Precision Balancing Systems Group of MTII. "MTI Instruments is a global leader in providing vibration monitoring and engine balancing technology to the jet engine industry. Our products are relied upon and specified by airlines and engine manufacturers around the world."

APEX Eddy Current probes and amplifiers or signal conditioners include the following:

o M100 Series Displacement and Proximity Sensors The M100 displacement and proximity sensor family provides accurate and stable measurements with linear ranges from 1 mm to 52 mm at a frequency response of 500 Hz. Probes are available with a wide range of thread sizes and configurations, making them easily adaptable into existing and new applications. Standard systems include pre-amplifier, threaded Eddy Current probe and 2 meters of integrated cable. Custom configurations are available to meet specific application needs.

o M200 Series Displacement, Vibration and Proximity Sensors The M200 displacement, vibration and proximity sensor family has a frequency response of 10 kHz, making them ideal for vibration and high- speed measurement applications. Standard linear measurement ranges vary from 0.25 mm to 6.10 mm with resolutions to 0.5 microns. Probe diameters of 5mm, 8mm, 11mm and 14mm are available with a wide range of thread sizes and configurations that can operate in environments up to 200C. Standard systems include pre-amplifier, threaded Eddy Current probe and 2 meters of integrated cable. Custom configurations are available to meet specific application needs.

o M900 Series Displacement and Proximity Sensors The M900 family of displacement and proximity sensors incorporates all electronics in the Eddy Current probe head, eliminating the need for an external pre-amplifier. They are specifically designed to address machinery monitoring applications for radial and axial vibration and position, as well as rotational speed. Measurement ranges vary from 1 mm to 50 mm at a frequency response of 5 kHz. Standard systems include pre-amplifier, threaded Eddy Current probe and 2 meters of integrated cable. Custom configurations are available to meet specific application needs.

"MTI Instruments is a recognized leader in high-performance, ultra-precise non-contact measurements based on laser, fiber-optic and capacitance technologies," said Gordon Reid, Business Unit Manager for Precision Instruments at MTII. "Our new Eddy Current sensor line expands our offerings and sets a new standard for high-value precision measurement."

APEX is the first stage in MTII's multi-phase program to create a comprehensive family of non-contact Eddy Current systems. The creation of this family of products is intended to meet the needs of the market by providing customers with high-quality, reliable products that are priced significantly lower than those of MTII's closest competitors.

"Providing customers with new measurement solutions like this APEX line of products and technologies is a key element of our product strategy," said Robert Kot, General Manager of MTII. "The introduction of APEX is the first in a series of steps MTI Instruments is taking to provide cost-competitive, fully-integrated, and packaged condition-based monitoring solutions for our customers around the world."
