NME Selected to Speak About VMD as One of Three Leading HD Optical Disc Solutions
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 /-- New Medium Enterprises (NME) (BULLETIN BOARD: NMEN) today announced that Dr. Eugene Levich, CTO for NME, has been invited to speak about the company's High Definition Versatile Multilayer Disc (HD VMD) solution at the MEDIA-TECH Showcase & Conference 2007, March 6-7, in Barcelona, Spain. The red laser-based HD VMD optical disc and format gives consumers a cost-effective alternative to Blu-ray and HD DVD formats through a total HD solution at prices comparable with the existing DVD market.
As one of the invited keynote speakers at MEDIA-TECH, Dr. Levich will educate attendants on VMD technology as the quality and value-driven solution for the mass market. Dr. Levich will cover the benefits of HD VMD to consumers, PC drive and media player manufacturers, disc replicators and content providers, and discuss why this proprietary optical storage solution is a major development for the packaged media industry. Dr. Levich will speak on Wednesday, March 7 at 11:30 a.m. and will illustrate his lecture with a live demonstration of the true HD VMD 20 (GB) disc played back in a regular "off the shelf" DVD drive. He will also display a new HD VMD Media Player based on this "off the shelf" DVD loader.
"The invitation to speak at such a respectable forum as MEDIA-TECH is recognition of VMD as one of the world's best disc solutions for the market's needs today," said Mahesh Jayanarayan, CEO, NME, Inc. "Replication manufacturers have long desired a more effective and efficient method to create HD discs -- and only HD VMD gives them a seamless method to move towards HD with their existing infrastructure. Our red laser format is a front line technological adaptation of DVD technology to the demands of HD quality. As the blue laser production costs become more realistic for consumer market and available for mass production, the VMD know-how and technologies will play major role in developing cost effective multilayer and multi-format HD solutions."
"The MEDIA-TECH conference gathers leading media industry companies together and provides unparalleled market intelligence on the latest media manufacturing technologies and innovations," said Bryan Ekus, managing director, MEDIA-TECH Association. "We're excited that Dr. Eugene Levich is able to participate in the conference and share insights on NME's highly anticipated HD VMD solution. There is tremendous interest in various HD optical disc formats and VMD is a key part of that discussion."
HD VMD is currently being adopted by content providers and distributors in 12 regions worldwide, including Brazil, Central Europe, China, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Japan, the Middle East, Russia, Scandinavia, and the United States.
VMD 2p technology can provide up to eight information layers on each side of a disc and can be utilized for both red laser and blue laser formats, thereby offering numerous content options and business opportunities for the high-definition and content ecosystem. VMD 2p technology is applicable for single- and double-sided discs and a multiplicity of formats, including Blu-ray and HD-DVD.
