Press release date: June 6, 2014
Lyon Metal today announced it is opening a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Byron, Illinois.
The news is being made shortly after the first anniversary of the birth of “new” Lyon, which occurred when a small group of investors acquired the assets of the old Lyon Workspace after it had filed for bankruptcy protection in January of 2013. Earlier this year, CEO Gene Berg and his two minority partners recapitalized the business to become the sole owners, which allowed them to combine Lyon Metal with their existing metal fabrication business which was founded in 2002.
“We bought Lyon Metal because it has been the default brand in metal storage products since 1901,” said Mr. Berg. “We see a retooled Lyon as an extension of our existing business, and as guys who like to ‘make stuff,’ we believe we can add tremendous value to the Lyon brand.” Lyon Metal will now be able to utilize state-of- the-art CNC panel bending and automated laser cutting in its manufacturing process.
On May 30, 2014, Lyon Metal announced in a WARN Act notice that it will be closing its production facility in Paris, Illinois. Lyon Metal is working on a program to relocate the Paris employees to its other facilities in Watseka, Michigan City and Byron. “There are a lot of good people in Paris,” said Mr. Berg, “and given the trajectory of our business, we will need all of those good people for future growth.”
