Press release date: October 4, 2006

MURRAY HILL, N.J., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) announced today that it is working with Synchronized Networking Solutions (SNS) a Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(A) certified, native American owned company that provides networking and IT expertise for service providers, government agencies and enterprise businesses.

Lucent and Synchronized Networking Solutions will participate in the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Mentor-Protege program that encourages private-sector relationships. This program aims to enhance the capability of 8(a) participants to compete more successfully for federal government contracts.

Mentors, such as Lucent, may provide technical and management assistance, financial assistance, subcontract support, and assistance in performing prime contracts through teaming arrangements with 8(a) firms.

"Our role as a mentor allows SNS to pursue a broader array of government contracts and leverage our capabilities to serve a new segment of government customers," said Dan Bigbie, vice president, Government Solutions, Lucent Technologies.

"With the support and guidance of Lucent we are able to tackle new challenges and grow our small business," said Bob Gonczy, CEO, Synchronized Networking Solutions. "We look forward to teaming on government projects where we can both apply our unique expertise and talents."

The 8(a) Business Development Program offers a broad scope of assistance to socially and economically disadvantaged firms. A company with a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) certification receives certain benefits in the Federal procurement process. Companies which are 8(a) firms automatically qualify for SDB certification.
