Lucent Obtains Global Certification to Conduct Network Security Assessments for Visa Merchants in U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia
MURRAY HILL, N.J., Sept. 12 / -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced an expanded portfolio of security offerings specifically targeting companies that accept or transmit credit card information. Lucent was recently certified by Visa to conduct security assessments based on the Payment Card Industry's (PCI) global Data Security Standard.
The PCI standard is a single set of data security requirements developed by Visa and MasterCard in 2004 to protect consumer information worldwide. Lucent is one of a handful of companies approved as an assessor in multiple regions including the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Lucent is now offering three types of services to help customers prepare for and validate compliance, including PCI Data Security Assessment Readiness Review, PCI Data Security Assessment and PCI Security Scanning.
Companies must be qualified by Visa as a Qualified Data Security Company (QDSC) in the U.S. or as a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) outside the U.S. to perform PCI audits.
As a QDSC and QSA and approved security scanning vendor, Lucent's team of professional security consultants are able to perform the Payment Card Industry's annual validation of compliance and quarterly network security scans required by Visa, and other credit card brands. Companies accepting credit card payments, ranging from online retailers to wireless telephone service providers, as well as companies that process or transmit the data, must maintain the standards established for the Payment Card Industry.
"With its extensive security and compliance knowledge as well as global breadth and depth, Lucent and its Bell Labs arm are now part of an elite group providing these services," said Vik Muiznieks, managing director, Global Security and Reliability Practice, Lucent Technologies. "Credit card companies and their merchants place a high emphasis on securing every aspect of transactions. Lucent, is pleased to join with the PCI industry to ensure the integrity of sensitive consumer and financial information."
Through its services arm, Lucent delivers a full-spectrum of offerings including: Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Security Consulting Services such as PCI assessments, security assessments, penetration testing, security policy and program development, security design and implementation, and Managed Security Solutions.
