Low-Cost, HD and SD Video Filters Provide Superior Performance for Global Consumer Markets

High-Performance HD and SD Video Filters
o The MAX11500 is a 3-channel HD video filter. The MAX11501/MAX11502 are 3-channel SD video filters, and the MAX11504/MAX11505 are 4-channel SD video filters.
o These HD and SD video filters provide the industry's best stopband attenuation and gain matching to meet market demand for high-performance, low-cost video filters.
o To enable this superior performance, the MAX11500 and MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505 integrate filters that provide exceptional time-domain response with low overshoot. To save cost, they also integrate input clamps, output buffers, and ±12kV ESD protection.
o The MAX11500 and MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505 are ideal for anti-aliasing and DAC-smoothing video applications, such as set-top boxes, HD and SD TVs, personal video recorders, security DVRs, and DVD players.

SUNNYVALE, CA-March 12, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products (Pink Sheets: MXIM) introduces the MAX11500 low-cost, 3-channel HD video filter, the MAX11501/MAX11502 low-cost, 3-channel SD video filters, and the MAX11504/MAX11505 low-cost, 4-channel SD video filters. Designed to meet market demand for cost-sensitive, high-performance HD and SD video filters, these devices provide the industry's best stopband attenuation, gain matching, and ESD protection. To enable this superior performance, they integrate filters that provide exceptional time-domain response with low overshoot.

Additionally, they integrate input clamps, output buffers, and ±12kV ESD protection to reduce cost, improve reliability, and save space. This combination of performance and overall low cost make the MAX11500 and MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505 ideal for anti-aliasing and DAC-reconstruction digital-video applications, such as set-top boxes (STBs), personal video recorders (PVRs), and HD and SD televisions.

The MAX11500 supports HD (1080i/720p) and the MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505 support SD (NTSC/PAL) scanning standards. The MAX11500 is a 6th-order 33MHz HD filter that accommodates component video (YPbPr and RGB); the MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505 are 5th-order SD filters that accommodate component video (YPbPr, RGB, and S-video or Y/C) and composite video (CVBS). The MAX11501/MAX11504 offer a flat passband with an 8.6MHz bandwidth, while the MAX11502/MAX11505 provide a high-frequency boost passband with an 8.9MHz bandwidth to compensate for DAC rolloff.

Ideally suited for DAC-output reconstruction, each channel combines a filter and a video buffer for driving a standard 150W video load (MAX11500) or two standard 150W video loads (MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505) with a 2VP-P signal. All filters provide inputs that can be either AC- or DC-coupled. They can also drive an AC-coupled load if required, or a DC-coupled load, which eliminates the need for large (220µF to 1000µF) AC-coupling capacitors and simplifies video filtering in STB, PVR, and HDTV applications. To further save space and improve reliability, these devices integrate three transparent clamps at the inputs and ±12kV ESD protection at the outputs.

The MAX11500 and MAX11501/MAX11502 are offered in an 8-pin SO package that is fully specified over the 0°C to +85°C upper-commercial temperature range. The MAX11504/MAX11505 are offered in a 10-pin µMAX® package that is fully specified over the 0°C to +70°C commercial temperature range. Prices start at $0.60 for the MAX11500, $0.55 for the MAX11501/MAX11502, and $0.66 for the MAX11504/MAX11505 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits and samples are available to speed designs.

Maxim Integrated Products, a two billion dollar company, designs and manufactures ICs for analog and mixed-signal applications. The company's broad portfolio of 27 product categories is among the industry's deepest, with over 5400 products.
