Press release date: January 9, 2014

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Loring Smart Roast, a leading manufacturer of technologically advanced coffee roasters, has chosen the EXTER T100 human machine interface (HMI) panel by Beijer Electronics to control the entire coffee roasting process. Featured on all three roaster models, the EXTER T100 panel allows operators and facility managers to easily control the temperature and humidity of the coffee roasting chambers for roasting that bring out the finest flavors in the beans.

Loring Smart Roast is known for bringing optimum control, energy-efficient technology along with their patented Flavor-Lock Roast Process™ Technology to artisan coffee roasting.  The closed-loop roasting environment of the Flavor-Lock Roast Process eliminates the need for an afterburner and produces a clean cup of coffee. This low oxygen environment preserves coffee flavor and the unique roast technology reduces fuel costs by up to 80%.

"After reviewing many operator panels, we chose the EXTER T100 by Beijer Electronics because of its superior SCADA-like software capabilities," said Bob Austin, President and CEO of Loring Smart Roast and Loring Founder, Mark Loring Ludwig. "With the EXTER T100, our roasting chambers can be controlled remotely in real-time and customers receive an email at the end of each roast with detailed roast data."

Included on the A15 Merlin, the S35 Kestrel and the S70 Peregrine roasters, the EXTER T100 is used by the operator to run the machine in both manual and automated modes. The EXTER T100 is connected to a Koyo 205 PLC system providing logic and timing to run the machine.

"We are excited to be working with Loring Smart Roast and being part of their revolutionary coffee roasting technology," said Nate Turner, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Americas. "Our powerful hardware and intuitive software combined with their sustainable roasting technology creates the perfect solution for serious coffee roasters."

The EXTER T100 is 10.4" durable yet lightweight HMI panel with a 64K color TFT-LCD display, touch screen, a high-performance Intel XScale® processor and easy-to-use yet powerful Information Designer application software. Information Designer allows you to easily create applications to efficiently interface between systems, machines and operators.
