Iron Ore Pelletizing
2009
Littleford Day, the Leader in Continuous Iron Ore Mixers has proven these machines to be an integral part of worldwide Iron Ore pelletizing processes. These machines designed specifically for the Iron Ore Industry provide the efficient and high quality dispersion of bentonite and other additives. Using only one motor with very low electrical consumption per ton with minimum wear results in significant cost savings not only in initial investment but also over the long term.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
The Littleford Continuous Iron Ore Mixer is a stationary horizontal drum utilizing proprietary advanced design mixing impellers on a massive shaft supported by heavy duty outboard bearings. Power is transmitted from the drive motor to the mixer shaft through a fluid coupling and directly coupled to a heavy duty speed reducer. Only one motor is required.
The ore concentrate, with dry or liquid additives, is charged continuously into the mixer through an inlet at the top of the drum near the drive end. The materials progress through a unique back-mixing action to the opposite end, where they are discharged through an opening.
MIXING TECHNOLOGY
The proprietary Littleford "Taconite" abrasion resistant mixing impellers rotate at special speed inside the drum, imparting unique motion to the materials. Each fine particle is independently directed toward the vessel walls and back again, criss-crossing with other particles to create a turbulent mixture of product particles and air. This trajectory exposes each individualized particle to bentonite, limestone fines and water. Accurate dispersion of additives and thorough moisture absorption result in a homogeneous mixture. This "mechanically fluidized bed," with its high amount of mixing, assures a discharged product that is totally uniform - creating advantages not possible with mulling compaction or pugmill mixing.
PROCESSING AND COST SAVING ADVANTAGES
o Internal proprietary liners offer increased production with less power requirements (approximately 0.45 kW/MT) and reduced wear rates.
o Liner life over 2 years in heavy wear areas.
o Intimate distribution of bentonite, resulting in potential bentonite savings.
o Retention times of less than a minute will deliver an intimately mixed and/or uniformly moistened ore product.
o A predictable moisture content within a specified range, with no moisture packing or undesirable water spots.
o Maximum agglomeration control during the balling process.
o A resulting green pellet of consistently uniform quality.
o A minimum of green pellet recycling.
o Only one motor is required with heavy duty main shaft.
o Improved duty cycles and up time reliability.
