Aligns with the VRTEX® 360 to the American Welding Society EG2.0: Guide for the Training of Welding Personnel
Cleveland – Lincoln Electric will demonstrate the new development of a lap joint for the VRTEX® virtual reality arc welding simulation trainer in upcoming events in 2013. The announcement highlights the continued development, support and focus of Lincoln Electric on welding training and education. Lincoln Electric will demonstrate the upgrade addition at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN, The International Trade Fair in Essen, Germany on September 16-21, 2013 and at AWS/FABTECH in Chicago, Ill., on November 18-21, 2013.
The VRTEX virtual reality trainer is a proven effective and efficient system to supplement and enhance welding training and education programs. The addition of a lap weld with support for steel, aluminum and stainless offers welding instructors another opportunity to integrate the system into curriculum, expand welding students’ knowledge and skills and create a blended welding training program.
"This addition increases the available and supported welds on the VRTEX system from 105 to 140," states Deanna Postlethwaite, Business Unit Manager for Virtual Welding Training at Lincoln Electric. "It is a significant and exciting addition. We continue to develop and expand the VRTEX 360 welding training solution to supplement and enhance welding training. The virtual welding trainer provides educators, instructors and trainers the opportunity to engage and excite their classrooms and mobile outreach programs, to create an immersive experience for accelerated and improved training programs and to teach and refine technique and skill before they walk into the welding lab."
The upgrade, available through the VRTEX® 360 Extensions™ Upgrade program, will be released for sale later this year. The complete upgrade includes a new lap weld coupon with support for mild steel, aluminum and stainless steel in the virtual welding simulation, the ability to provide a score on a welding pad to increase the effectiveness and provide a numerical assessment of skill level, as well as additional GMAW-P pulse spray welding modes for use on mild steel.
The VRTEX virtual reality system is utilized globally to allow manufacturers and fabricators to screen welders during the hiring process, assess skill levels and to do so cost effectively. The virtual welding simulation enhances and engages students in the welding classroom, makes welding fun and exciting and seamlessly carries those skills effectively to the welding booth. Teaching welding with a blended training methodology of virtual welding and traditional welding training appeals to multiple learning styles, allows and assists with students at different learning paces and encourages interaction and teamwork for higher comprehension.
