Legrand/Pass & Seymour Receive OCRRA Blue Ribbon Recycler of the Year Sustainability Award

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (March, 01, 2012) - Legrand/Pass & Seymour (P&S), a leading provider of electrical wiring devices and home systems has received the 2011 Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) Blue Ribbon Recycler of the Year award in the business category.

P&S was handed a plaque made from fallen Colorado pine trees and 100 percent recycled glass in a ceremony held Thursday, March 1st at Syracuse's Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

Becoming a Blue Ribbon Recycler is a distinction awarded to local businesses that demonstrate their environmental leadership when it comes to recycling and waste reduction.

Commenting on the award, Pat Davin, Vice President and General Manager at Legrand/Pass & Seymour said; "We are honored to receive this award which signifies our commitment to making a contribution to a better living and working environment."

Sustainability is one of the guiding principles for the entire Legrand organization. It is based on three pillars - governance, social, and environmental - and is led by Susan Rochford the specially appointed Vice President of Energy Efficiency, Sustainability and Public Policy.

Sustainability is also a core component in the research and development of new products for P&S. "We include sustainable design principles in our product development, and have introduced products like our electric vehicle chargers to help support the new fleet of electric vehicles entering the market. Our sustainable efforts will multiply over the next few years as we incorporate more of our processes into the effort," said Davin.

P&S have added more paper recycling containers for office related papers as well as adding non-returnable bottle collection boxes for blue bin type items. Recyclables are collected each evening by P&S's cleaning crew and then discarded in the single stream waste collection container.

Employee participation has contributed significantly to the success of P&S's sustainability efforts. "We've sent various emails to employees emphasizing recycling of paper, non-returnable bottles, other 'blue bin' items as well as batteries. When an office or office area is upgraded, we work with our vendor to use recycled or used material, desks, chairs and walls. We also ensure that OCRRA newsletters are forwarded to employees via our internal group email list. Our Intranet has sustainability resources and we have held contests for employees to demonstrate their willingness to go green," said Davin.

Legrand is one of ten North American companies to participate in the President's Save Energy Now campaign, and is committed to reducing its energy intensity by 25% over the next ten years.
