Press release date: November 20, 2009

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2009) - Legrand/Pass & Seymour, a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring devices and home systems, now offers a wide variety of NAFTA-compliant ground fault circuit interrupters. In addition to meeting provisions of the Buy American Act, necessary for Federal Stimulus projects, these GFCIs include the same exceptional safety and tamper-resistant features known to the Legrand/Pass & Seymour product family.

Meeting the 2008 NEC® tamper-resistant requirements, each GFCI receptacle includes a built-in shutter system to prevent children from inserting metal objects into the socket and touching electrically live components. Plugs can be inserted as usual, and the improved shutter design doesn't require additional force to remove the plug from the receptacle.

Like all Legrand/Pass & Seymour GFCIs, the NAFTA-compliant products include the company's advanced SafeLock(TM) Protection to shut off power to the receptacle if there's a ground fault, if the GFCI is miswired or if it fails. They also exceed UL 943 surge requirements, surviving 100 times the required voltage surge test cycles. The GFCIs meet Federal Specification requirements, considered the quality standard and necessary for many government projects.

"We invented the first GFCI and have remained innovators in this category for nearly 40 years, continuously expanding and improving the product line," said Bill Timmons, marketing manager of residential products at Legrand/Pass & Seymour. "The addition of tamper-resistant features gives us an even more complete product offering, and we take great pride in making these devices available under the Buy American Act."

With an estimated $5 billion earmarked for electrical-related construction spending in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, known as the economic stimulus program, ensuring the availability of trade-agreement-compliant devices is crucial. Legrand/Pass & Seymour also offers a range of commercial and industrial products that make the company a preferred choice for government projects.
