Laird Technologies' EMI Engineer Authors Cover Story for IN Compliance Magazine

Subject Matter Expert Discusses EMI Shielding Principles

St. Louis, Missouri, USA - June 29, 2010 - Laird Technologies, Inc., a global leader in the design and supply of customized performance-critical components and systems for advanced electronics and wireless products, today announced that one of its subject matter experts, EMC Technical Representative and NARTE Certified EMC & ESD Engineer Gary Fenical, has authored the cover story for the June 2010 issue of IN Compliance Magazine.

The article, titled "The Basic Principles of Shielding," focuses on EMC requirements that are mandatory for electrical and electronic devices that are mandatory throughout the world. The majority of these devices have a minimal size and operate at high frequencies. They are placed in enclosures that lack proper EMI shielding, which cannot meet mandatory EMC requirements and pose a serious risk that may cause interference to other devices or may cause them to receive interference. A proper EMC control program can reduce the risk of interference by identifying the "suspect" components and circuits that may cause or be susceptible to EMI. A complete EMC program consists of proper filtering, grounding and shielding.

Gary Fenical has been with Laird Technologies for 26 years. He is a specialist in RF shielded enclosures and has been responsible for the design and / or measurement and quality control of hundreds of large-scale shielded enclosures, as well as a number of shielded equipment cabinets and housings. He was instrumental in the design and construction of Laird Technologies' state-of-the-art World Compliance Centers. Mr. Fenical has authored many articles on EMC Requirements for Medical Devices, Mutual Recognition Agreements and Guidelines; meeting the essential requirements of the EU EMC Directive. He has also authored several seminars on the EU EMC Directive, International Compliance, and Designing for EMC and EMC Requirements for Medical Devices which have been presented worldwide. He holds the patent for the invention of heat-treated beryllium-copper knitted wire mesh gaskets.

About IN Compliance Magazine

IN Compliance Magazine's mission is to supply the latest news and information to electrical engineering professionals keeping them informed and educated on requirements to design, produce, and market their products around the world.

Our roots run deep in the community of electrical engineering professionals whose primary concern is the regulatory compliance of their companys' products. Our team was the driving force behind our predecessor, Conformity®1 magazine. When the decision was made to shutter Conformity in March of 2009, our team got together and committed to continue supporting our community.

August 2009 brought the launch of our new publication, IN Compliance Magazine. Our Premiere Issue was released at the IEEE EMC Symposium in Austin, Texas where we were welcomed back by friends and supporters anxious for the informational needs of the compliance community to once again be filled. Starting with the January 2010 issue, we resume our mission by publishing monthly issues of IN Compliance Magazine, providing the latest industry news on our website www.incompliancemag.com and through semi-monthly eNewsletters. We are proud to continue supporting our community as their preferred source of regulatory compliance information.
