LMS Acquires McCann's Piggyback Consolidation to Add Intermodal Offerings, Create Subsidiary

New LMS subsidiary to offer freight brokerage, intermodal services

ST. LOUIS - Logistics Management Solutions (LMS), a non-asset-based third party logistics provider, announced today that it has acquired McCann's Piggyback Consolidation, Inc, an Intermodal Marketing Company (IMC) in Fenton, Mo. Through the acquisition, LMS will add intermodal services to its offerings and create a new subsidiary, Freight Management Solutions (FMS). FMS will specialize in intermodal and freight brokerage services while its parent company, LMS, will focus on supply chain management solutions.

LMS acquired McCann's to enable its clients to benefit from rail transportation, which offers a low cost and environmentally friendly means of moving freight throughout North America. Through the acquisition, FMS will have access to all Class 1 railroads.

"The transportation industry moves and changes at a rapid pace," said Dennis Schoemehl, president and CEO of LMS. "As government regulations evolve, fuel prices fluctuate and the economy improves, companies need to expand and explore their modal options to stay competitive with respect to service and cost."

LMS brings its award-winning, proprietary transportation management system, TOTAL, to FMS. This Web-native system uses the latest technology to manage freight movements and perform online tracking and tracing. The new subsidiary will assume McCann's headquarters in Fenton, Mo, where staff from McCann's and LMS will work together as the FMS team. McCann's co-founder, Bill McCann, will take on a consultative role during the transition.

McCann's was founded in 1980 by Bill and Donna McCann who have more than 62 years of combined rail industry experience. Before launching the business, Bill spent 16 years with Missouri Pacific Railroad where he held various management and executive positions. Donna served as McCann's chief financial officer and was an active member of the railroad community. She served 10 years on the Transportation Brokers Conference of America where she was the first woman to be elected to the board of directors in 1988; she then served as president in 1990. In the mid 1980s she lobbied on behalf of railroads and testified in front of the U.S. House and Senate.

"Over the last 31 years we've had the unique pleasure of watching the rail industry evolve," said Donna. "This established transportation mode is ripe for growth and opportunity and we are confident more shippers will discover the benefits of rail in the near future," said Donna. "LMS shares our conviction, as well as our unwavering dedication to customer service. They also bring the Web-based technology today's marketplace demands so they are well equipped to take our clients to the next level."
