Rubber pioneer presents new developments
Leverkusen - The year 2009 has a special place in the history of the specialty chemicals group LANXESS AG, with the company celebrating the 100th anniversary of the invention of synthetic rubber. "This invention by the chemist Fritz Hofmann marked the start of the history of modern rubber," says Rodrigo Henriquez from the LANXESS Technical Rubber Products business unit. "We are continuing this legacy today, and the invention will, of course, be honored befittingly at our stand."
However, the present and the future will also feature strongly at stand 12/203 in hall 12. "The history of synthetic rubber started 100 years ago," explains Henriquez. "Since then, elastomers have come a long way thanks to a whole range of improvements. We are committed to using our experience to drive forward these developments further still." New HNBR grades, for example, are just one of the latest innovations to come from the company's development departments. These hydrogenated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubbers (HNBR) boast improved swelling properties in oils and open up new opportunities for developers of technical rubber goods, e.g. in terms of contact with alternative fuels. Once again this year, experts from all LANXESS's rubber manufacturing business units will be on hand at the stand to answer any questions relating to synthetic rubber. Brand-new information material will also be available.
Rubber experts from LANXESS will also be giving lectures at this international industry meeting. The program will include a wide range of topics, including "Networking systems for elastomers", "Polymer-filler interactions" and "Chemistry and automotives - QM at the interface between raw materials and rubber processing".
A special highlight this year will be the addition of fluororubbers (FKM) to the LANXESS product portfolio. The company has recently concluded a sales partnership with the Russian rubber manufacturer Halopolymer in Moscow. "LANXESS has already earned a reputation as the synthetic rubber manufacturer with the broadest product portfolio," adds Henriquez. "The new fluororubbers, which are marketed under the name Levatherm F, are enabling us to further expand our portfolio of high-performance rubbers, thus ensuring that we have the right elastomers to suit an even greater range of applications."
LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 6.58 billion in 2008 and currently around 14,600 employees in 23 countries. The company is represented at 44 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
