Versprille Paper Discusses Approaches to Working with "Dumb" Geometry

Marlborough, MA - March 13, 2006 - KubotekŪ USA, developer of the KeyCreator(TM) design and manufacturing software, today announced the immediate availability of a free white paper from Collaborative Product Development Associates (CPDA.) The white paper: Mining Intelligence in "Dumb" Geometry by Ken Versprille, PLM Research Director, CPDA, examines the problems inherent in working with designs generated from multiple CAD programs and discusses solutions which allow for editing of disparate models.

"Engineering groups are increasingly being called upon to deal with CAD geometry from disparate sources," said author Ken Versprille, PLM Research Director at CPDA. "So-called 'dumb' geometry actually contains intelligence which can be mined to greatly enhance feature discovery within a solid which has been stripped of its proprietary data intelligence."

Versprille outlines the reasons for the schism in sharing 3D geometric data between different modeling applications and mentions some surprising survey results from a recently completed Kubotek survey of design engineers. He also goes on to explain the limitations of feature-based CAD systems.

"This white paper is extremely useful for design teams working in disparate formats," said Robert Bean, chief operating officer, Kubotek USA. "The approach described is particularly useful to those searching for information on tools that enable localized feature editing and deformation techniques on files that have been created in multiple CAD formats."
