Since 1975, Mullet Cabinet, Inc. has been producing high-end, handcrafted custom kitchen cabinetry.

Economic Interest:
Mullet Cabinet conducted color changes up to 17 times each day. The color changes were labor intensive and hindered production as it took 5-7 minutes to change colors. Mullet Cabinet needed repeatability, fast color changes, and wanted to increase production and improve finish quality. These improvements were needed on the piece parts finishing section of their facility which was the cause of their production bottleneck.
Approach:
EXEL North America and FinishWorks (distributor for Kremlin Rexson) met with Lamar Troyer of Mullet Cabinet to discuss equipment options and perform equipment testing in the Plymouth, Michigan lab. The goal was to convert Mullet from conventional application technology to Kremlin Airmix® technology. The second step was to introduce and test 2k equipment using the Kremlin Cyclomix(TM) Expert system.
Main Customer Need: Mullet Cabinet needed a system that would deliver an efficient color change. They conduct color changes approximately (17) times each day and this hindered their production. It was taking approximately 5-7 minutes to complete a color change and it was labor intensive. FinishWorks and EXEL North America conducted several tests that converted their spray technology from conventional spraying to using Airmix® technology. Mullet purchased the equipment on a performance guarantee "Spray Before You Pay" program which allowed then to verify the performance of the system for 30 days prior to purchasing the equipment.
Kremlin Rexson Solution: Mullet Cabinet installed the Kremlin 3K Cyclomix(TM) Expert system with several pumps and was able to decrease their color change times from 5-7 minutes to 30 seconds. They also reduced coatings and solvent waste by 65% which was a huge savings for them. With the new Kremlin 3k Cyclomix(TM) Expert system they were able to achieve repeatability, much faster color changes and improve finish quality. Lamar stated, "The finishing facility has been the bottleneck in the past due to equipment and processes, now with Kremlin equipment, it is no longer the bottleneck."
