Manufacturing event to bring together industry stakeholders, leaders and policymakers to discuss key issues and solutions

(DEARBORN, Mich.) – SME is pleased to announce U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will keynote its inaugural THE BIG M event in Detroit, Michigan June 9 to 12. THE BIG M is designed to highlight the latest ideas, innovations and technologies from across the manufacturing industry and brings together professionals, manufacturers and policymakers to discuss real-world solutions to accelerate manufacturing in communities nationwide.

“A strong manufacturing sector is critical to our intellectual and innovative capacity, and I am delighted to be part of THE BIG M event to discuss programs and policies that will help our manufacturers maintain global competitiveness,” said Pritzker. “Manufacturing accounts for 70 percent of private sector research and development and 70 percent of patents issued. It also makes up the majority of U.S. exports, which support 10 million American jobs and contributed a record $2.2 trillion to our economy last year.”

Through exhibits, conference sessions featuring manufacturing experts, company tours and demonstrations, THE BIG M is focused on showcasing breakthrough technologies and applications. This event will also highlight critical topics such as advanced manufacturing, covering innovation, digital factory, cybersecurity, new technology, talent, 3D printing, globalization, modeling, simulation and sustainability.

“The collaborative input of industry is powerful and will shape the future of manufacturing,” said Debbie Holton, SME managing director of industry strategy and events. “THE BIG M provides an optimal venue for manufacturers to have their voices heard by policymakers and team up on their own industry initiatives.”
