"Advances in Material Handling & Compaction Technologies for Dry Powders" March 6 and March 7, 2013 at Hosokawa facility, Summit, New Jersey

PITMAN, NJ USA - K-Tron formally announces collaboration with Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems and Virto / Elcan, presenting a complimentary technical seminar, "Advances in Material Handling & Compaction Technologies for Dry Powders" offering processors detailed information on the advances in material handling and compaction technologies for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

This one-day event will be offered twice for added flexibility:

Wednesday March 6th and Thursday, March 7th
Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems facility
10 Chatham Road, Summit, New Jersey - 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
*Seminar is free-of-charge and includes lunch and refreshments. Online registration is required.
Register online: www.hmicronpowder.com/compaction

Technical seminar examines a wide variety of important processing technologies, and offers an objective technical overview introducing participants to methods of both improving current operations and utilizing new process technologies. It is recommended for anyone handling dry powders in the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries, including scientists, engineers, production and manufacturing personnel, researchers, formulation scientists, product development and process transfer personnel. Program covers ingredient feeding, material handling via pneumatic conveying, compaction in the production of dense granules from fine powders, granulation and screening.

A compaction system demo will illustrate how each process begins with a dry powder, fed into a compactor which applies pressure to create dense powder flakes. Flakes are fed to a granulator where larger sheets are broken down into granules. Granule size is controlled by a retaining screen below a slow speed rotor and then classified using a screener. Finer particles pass through and are pneumatically conveyed back to the compactor. A separate demo will showcase high accuracy feeding technologies via twin-screw loss-in-weight feeding, with powders pneumatically conveyed via sanitary powder receiver. Other equipment on display includes a twin screw micro-ingredient feeder for the low rate addition of powders / API's.
