Joseph J. Peters Receives ASTM Award of Merit for Work on Paint Committee



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 23 March 2009-Joseph J. Peters, technical sales manager at Leneta Co., Mahwah, N.J., has received the ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow. The Award of Merit is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.

Peters received the award "in recognition of outstanding leadership in Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications in the development of standards for applied paint films, architectural coatings, water-repellant coatings, concrete and masonry treatments, and paint brushes, and for his outstanding promotion efforts on behalf of the committee."

An active member of Committee D01 for more than 30 years, Peters participates on several D01 subcommittees and has served as chair of the main committee since 2004. In addition to D01 standards development work, he has played a pivotal role in the promotion of committee activities, resulting in a significant increase in membership. He also works on Committees E06 on Performance of Buildings, F30 on Emergency Medical Services and F32 on Search and Rescue.

Before assuming his current role at Leneta Co. in 1997, Peters held marketing and sales positions at BYK-Gardner USA, Cannon Instrument Co. and Elcometer. Professionally, Peters' work has focused on physical testing equipment for paints, inks and other materials, including the design of the equipment and the development of test procedures for its use.

Peters is active in his local community where he serves as a dispatcher for the local fire department and is an emergency responder for the American Red Cross. He also works with the Passaic County Sheriff's Communications Department in Wayne, N.J.
